This Week Marks 113 Years Since the First Powered Flight!

"On 17 December 1903, Orville Wright piloted the first powered airplane 20 feet above a wind-swept beach in North Carolina. The flight lasted 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. Three more flights were made that day with Orville's brother Wilbur piloting the record flight lasting 59 seconds over a distance of 852 feet.

The brothers began their experimentation in flight in 1896 at their bicycle shop in Dayton, Ohio. They selected the beach at Kitty Hawk as their proving ground because of the constant wind that added lift to their craft. In 1902 they came to the beach with their glider and made more than 700 successful flights.

Having perfected glided flight, the next step was to move to powered flight. No automobile manufacturer could supply an engine both light enough and powerful enough for their needs. So they designed and built their own. All of their hard work, experimentation and innovation came together that December day as they took to the sky and forever changed the course of history."

Just Hanging Around in the Shade

Just one of those mornings where all is calm enough for birds to be able to enjoy the shade. Sometimes you just got to sit back and relax to enjoy the view.

Why only quit today?

Yesterday Local 10 News reported that the Antonov An-225, the largest airplane in the world, is scheduled to land at MIA at 3:30 a.m. this morning.  It will be a quick visit as the An-225 is scheduled to spend less than seven hours in Miami before departing for South America.

Fun Fact: The cargo hold of the Antonov An-225 is longer than the entire first flight flown by the Wright brothers back in 1903!

Happy National Women's Health & Fitness Day!!

Today we celebrate woman coming together to focus on their physical activity and health. This is the nations largest annual health promotion for all ages. Throughout the years woman have become equal to men in their physical abilities to prove that anything is possible. Let us celebrate these women who have opened doors of equality for everyone, proving that they can play any sport as good and/or better than any man can.

Lets jet with Ashley!

Celebrate with your family by taking on some outdoor activities rather than sitting at home. Motivate yourself in order to motivate your loved ones. National Family Health & Fitness Day is observed annually on the last Saturday in September. National Family Health & Fitness Day USA  promotes family involvement in physical activity in support of one of the goals of the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health.
